Altea & Surrounding Area

The town of Altea is situated in the Alicante region of the "Marina Baixa" and is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Costa Blanca. View Map »

Altea Hills resort is equal distance between Alicante (slightly nearer) and Valencia. It is approximately an hour driving on the motorway from either airport to the apartment. Car hire is easily obtained at discounted prices from either airport. It is essential to hire a car.

The Sierra Bernia arises in the North, its hard edged profile reaching a height of 1,129m at its highest point. Altea is a protegee of this mountain, acting as a shield of solid rock, preventing cold winds and external influences from entering the bay, thus creating its own micro-climate.

Located via the the A7 motorway, approx. 15km north of Benidorm and just south of Calpe, Altea is one of the few villages to have maintained it's atmosphere and heritage as a fishing village. Now with approx. 17,000 inhabitants, Altea and its village are most Famous for the Nuestra Senora del Consuelo and Virgen de Consuelo Churches.

Altea center has a spanish village feel, with an attractive harbour area restaurants and bars. If you visit or stay in Altea you should also visit the little villages in the surrounding areas. In particular La Nucia to the north of Altea hosts a vibrant Sunday market which is worth a day trip visit. In the Altea hills surrounding Some km away from Altea you will find the mountain area of Sierra de Bernia which reaches up to 1130 metres in altitude. This provides a spectacular view of the Altea area and coastline.

Due to Altea's comparatively mild weather conditions, even in summer the town and the surrounding hills are a must for every tour around the Costa Blanca.

You can walk from the main Altea town centre to the top of the old town where you will see the blue-doomed church of La Vigen de la Consuelo. As you walk upwards through the maze of cobbled narrow streets you will see tempting boutiques, craft/art shops, cafes and restaurants with tables and chairs set in the open and shaded by orange trees. The white walls are splashed with brilliant geraniums, plumbago and bougainvillaea, and the town's popularity with tourists ensures a constant babble of voices in a multitude of languages. It is a really pretty place to visit and the many cafes and restuarants provide a variety of choices to suit all pockets.

The beach area offers a mixture of pebble and sand and there's the usual cluster of restaurants, hotels and bars ranged along a pleasant palm-lined esplanade, and good watersports facilites.

The Altean people are hospitable, sympathetic and tolerant of other peoples shortcomings, qualities not often found at other latitudes. You will not feel like a stranger with such exceptionally warm people around you.

Altea's Beaches


Altea has over 6km of coastline running into coves and precipices. Sheer prominent cliffs can be found to the North with pebbled coves and transparent waters.

Terra Mitica

Visit the Terra Mitica website to learn more about this exciting theme park, where you can pre-book your tickets. Terra Mitica, situated just inland from Benidorm, is only about 30 minutes by car from Moraira, and 45 minutes from Javea. Junction 65A on the A-7 motorway leads directly to the park. The park has five themed areas, each corresponding to an area of the Mediterranean. It also has some of the largest and most exhilarating rides in Europe.

Mundomar

Visit the Mundomar website to learn more about this exciting theme park, where you can pre-book your tickets. Mundomar, on the northern outskirts of Benidorm is only about 30 minutes from Moraira and 45 minutes from Javea. The Marine and Exotic Animal Park has many outstanding attractions including one of the best dolphinariums in Europe. Whilst children are very well catered for, there is plenty for adults to enjoy and appreciate.
